NCP nominee files nomination papers for Williamnagar Assembly seat

Shillong, Apr 9: Krenilla Marak filed her nominations on Monday as NCP candidate for the election to the Williamnagar Assembly seat to be held on April 27.

Meghalaya chief electoral officer, F.R. Kharkongor on Monday said that Marak filed her nominations before a returning officer at Williamnagar and no other candidates can file nominations except Marak.

Scrutiny of nominations of only the NCP candidate will be held on April 11, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 13.

The poll to Williamnagar seat could not be held on February 27 along with other 59 Assembly seats, and it was countermanded following the killing of NCP candidate, Jonathone N. Sangma in an IED blast on February 18.

No the NCP is fielding Jonathone’s wife, Krenilla Marak.

Williamnagar constituency is being represented by Congress MLA Deborah C. Marak who is also the party’s candidate for the poll.

A total of nine candidates are in the fray. The other candidates apart from Deborah and Krenill include Marcuise N. Marak of the NPP, Mahamsing M. Sangma of the UDP, Santosh R. Marak of the BJP, and four Independents – Sengbath R. Marak, Lahatson N. Marak, Siljong R. Marak, and Jan N. Arengh.

Williamnagar Assembly constituency has a total of 32,021 voters including 16,567 males and 15,454 females.

Polling will be held on April 27 from 7 am to 4 pm and votes will be counted on May 1.
