NEHU Vice Chancellor goes on leave, students to continue hunger strike

NEHU Vice Chancellor extends leave till Dec 29

Shillong, Nov 15: North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla has embarked on a 15-day leave due to unavoidable circumstances, effective November 15, 2024.

During his absence, Senior Most Professor N. Saha will oversee the university’s operations.

However, this development hasn’t deterred the NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and NEHU Khasi Students’ Union from continuing their agitation, demanding the Vice Chancellor’s resignation.

Tohino Kharsati, NEHUSU general secretary, emphasized that their hunger strike will persist until their demands are met.

In a significant move, Prof. N. Saha, the senior-most professor, has taken over as the Vice Chancellor in charge.

He was warmly welcomed by the students and teachers, who escorted him to the Vice Chancellor’s office.

Prof. Saha, a product of NEHU since 1980, expressed his commitment to resolving the turmoil, prioritizing the withdrawal of the students’ hunger strike.
