Shillong, Aug 20: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) has demanded from the University to put on hold the recruitment to the posts of professor and associate professor, which falls under the economically weaker section (EWS) category.
In a memorandum submitted to the NEHU vice chancellor, Prof SK Srivastava on Tuesday, NEHUSU president, Genuica Majaw said this reservation for the EWS is very confusing and controversial.
She said the Union failed to understand as to how an Associate Professor or an Assistant Professor falls under EWS category when their annual salary would have exceeded the given criteria to be qualified for EWS.
“Therefore, we demand that the recruitment to these posts placed under EWS reservation be put on hold till a clarification is sent to the Union by the Ministry concerned…within a week’s time,†Majaw said.
Majaw said the Union would compel the administration to cancel the recruitment under the EWS category.
“The union will not be held responsible if there is any democratic unrest in the campus if the recruitment goes forward,†he said.
