KSU wants Prof. Sherwin May Sungoh as next NEHU VC

Shillong, Feb 14: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) has decided to serve a one month ultimatum to the authority of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to address various grievances being faced by students of the university.

The decision was taken by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) which comprised of the North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) and other student bodies at a meeting held on Thursday.

“We have decided to submit a memorandum to the NEHU authority demanding immediate solution to various problems within one month,” NEHUSU finance secretary, Ã¯arapbhathik Shangrit said.

Shangrit said that the erratic power and water supply have created a lot of problems to students of the University for the past many years since 2014.

He said despite memorandums being submitted on several occasions, there was absolutely no action taken on the part of the NEHU authority.

“The problem of irregular electricity supply in the campus has become a daily affair and due to this, the water supply was also disrupted and the students cannot use aqua guards for safe drinking water,” Shangrit said.

Apart from this, the student leader urged the the university authority to resolve issues related to hostel facilities as many students are yet to get accommodation.

“We also want the authority to come up with decision to address the concern related to restrictions imposed on hosteliers,” he said.

Shangrit informed that the issues will also be taken up at the general body meeting of the NEHUSU to be held on February 22.

Meanwhile, the NEHUTA during the meeting has demanded from the authority to resolve issues related to filling up of vacant posts for teachers.
