Shillong, Nov. 2: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Friday concluded the Special Campaign 5.0, marking the end of a month-long initiative held from October 2 to 31, 2025. The campaign focused on institutionalizing Swachhata (cleanliness) and reducing pendency across government offices, and was successfully implemented across the NEIGRIHMS campus and its outreach locations.
Throughout the campaign, NEIGRIHMS undertook a wide range of activities, including cleaning drives, campus beautification, reviewing and reorganizing physical files, disposing old records in accordance with government norms, and freeing up valuable space for improved utilization.
As part of its community-driven approach, the institute also conducted cleanliness drives at the Rural Health Training Centre in Bhoirymbong, the Mawdiangdiang Police Outpost, and areas outside the NEIGRIHMS main gate, in collaboration with local taxi driver associations and police personnel — reinforcing collective responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness.
In alignment with its commitment to improving public health in Meghalaya, NEIGRIHMS organized a health awareness programme and poster competition for students at Bhanu Bhakta Nepali Proceeding Secondary School, Nongmensong, and a Waste-to-Art competition for NEIGRIHMS staff. A free health camp and beautification drive were also held at the Community Hall, Nongkhyriem, in collaboration with the Seng Kynthei Nongkhyriem.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Prof. Nalin Mehta, Director of NEIGRIHMS, expressed gratitude to all staff, particularly the sanitation workforce, for their dedication and hard work throughout the campaign. He reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote cleanliness and health awareness across Meghalaya.
Prof. Suvamoy Chakraborty, Medical Superintendent, and Lt. Cdr. Pawn Deep, Deputy Director, also applauded the efficiency and dedication of the sanitation staff in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for patients and campus residents.
To honour their service, Employee of the Month awards were presented during the ceremony, along with prizes for winners of the various competitions held under the campaign.
