Shillong, Sept 25, 2025: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) organized a series of school-based health education and awareness programs under the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar (SN-SPA) Abhiyaan’, promoting the message of “Healthy Women, Strong Families” among adolescent students in Meghalaya.
The initiative featured specialized health camps and awareness sessions at St. George Higher Secondary School, St. Jerome Higher Secondary School, Nongmensong, and Army Public School, 101 Area, Shillong. NEIGRIHMS doctors and healthcare professionals, including public health nursing officers and dieticians, conducted interactive sessions on healthy lifestyles, nutrition, mental health, substance abuse prevention, responsible citizenship, and maternal and women’s health, with a focus on menstrual hygiene.
The event at Army Public School was inaugurated by Dr. (Mrs.) Nivedita Malik, Zonal President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA). NEIGRIHMS specialists, including Dr. Wansalan Karu Shullai (Obstetrics & Gynecology), Dr. Star Pala (Community Medicine), Dr. Preety (Community Medicine), Dr. Pragya Pandey (Community Medicine), Shri Wallam Lynrah (Public Health Nursing Officer), Ms. Thiris Pala (Nursing Officer, Community Medicine), and Shri Pulak Matabbar (Dietician), played a key role in providing expert guidance and support.
School principals and teaching staff actively participated in the program, expressing appreciation for the efforts of the NEIGRIHMS team in promoting health awareness among students.
Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, Director of NEIGRIHMS, commended the faculty and staff for successfully organizing the events. He emphasized the institute’s commitment to spreading awareness of healthy lifestyles in the community and reiterated that NEIGRIHMS will continue to lead campaigns aimed at improving public health, particularly among schoolchildren.
