Shillong, Sept 15, 2025: In a major step towards enhancing patient care, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) inaugurated its new hospital pharmacy today. The facility, located on the ground floor of the OPD block, will provide patients with access to a wide range of medications at discounted rates.
Speaking at the inauguration, NEIGRIHMS Director, Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, said the milestone reflects the institute’s commitment to comprehensive healthcare delivery. “This initiative is aimed at improving patient convenience and ensuring timely access to quality medicines,” he stated. Prof. Mehta further added that efforts are underway to stock expensive consumables and medical devices at the pharmacy.
The new pharmacy will also play a key role in implementing cashless treatment under schemes such as PM-JAY, the Megha Health Insurance Scheme, and other insurance programmes operational at NEIGRIHMS.
Medical Superintendent, Prof. Suvamoy Chakraborty, pharmacy store in-charge, doctors, and other staff members attended the inauguration. Prof. Mehta congratulated the Medical Superintendent’s office and pharmacy staff for their efforts in setting up the facility.
NEIGRIHMS already houses AMRIT and Jan Aushadhi pharmacies in the OPD block, which have been catering to patients for several years. The new pharmacy adds to the institute’s mission of strengthening affordable and accessible healthcare for the people of the region.
