SHILLONG, MAR 5: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) celebrated its 16th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, conferring degrees on students from MBBS, nursing, postgraduate and super-specialty programmes.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof (Dr) Vedprakash Mishra, Pro-Chancellor of Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education & Research, Wardha, highlighted the transformation of medical education in India over the past two decades.
“Indian medical education has transformed significantly,” he said, noting a shift toward competency, confidence, concern, and compassion as the key pillars that align the country’s medical training with international standards. On the occasion, Mishra was also conferred the institute’s prestigious oration honour.
Dean of NEIGRIHMS, Prof Animesh Mishra, congratulated the graduating students and administered the physician’s pledge, urging the new doctors to uphold professionalism in their careers.
“Doctors must incorporate medical professionalism while working in society,” he said.
Director Prof Nalin Mehta noted that Indian doctors are widely respected worldwide for their competence and knowledge. He encouraged the graduates to practise medicine ethically while maintaining the dignity and autonomy of patients. He also expressed confidence that the new graduates would contribute significantly to advancing healthcare and medical research across the country.
Organising secretary Prof Subhash Das extended his gratitude to the organising committee and staff for successfully hosting the event.
The ceremony, held at the NEIGRIHMS campus in Shillong, was attended by faculty members, families of graduates, and guests from the healthcare sector.
