Shillong, May 10: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute for Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) is yet to seek the intervention of the state government into the Medical Council of India (MCI) recent decision.
The MCI has recently derecognized the Post Graduation course at NEIGRIHMS, which is one of the prestigious institutes in the North East region.
The PG degrees which were derecognized include MD-Radiodiagnosis, MS-General Surgery and MD-Anaesthesiology awarded by the institute under the affiliation with North-Eastern Hill University.
According to the MCI, the recruitment rules (RR) followed by NEIGRIHMS were totally different from those suggested by the Council.
However, the Additional Chief Secretary in-charge of Health and Family Welfare, Y Tsering said that the state government can take up the matter with the Ministry of Health, which can take up with the MCI.
According to him, the state government usually does not interfere with the NEIGRIHMS since it is a central institute.
Asked, he said that so far NEIGRIHMS has not approached the state government on the matter. “If they want, we will take up the matter,” the additional chief secretary added.
