Shillong, Sept 24: New Minister in-charge Water Resources, H Brolding Nongsiej on Tuesday said that he would try his best to improve the irrigation system to boost agricultural activities in the state.

After taking charge of the department, Nongsiej told reporters that many places in the state lack irrigation facilities.

“I would try to find out ways and means to improve the irrigation system in the state,” he said.

Nongsiej also informed that he would hold a meeting to review the schemes implemented by the department.

The minister also said that he would also take up the issue related to the two rivers –Umkhrah and Umshyrpi.

“I am very much concerned about the two rivers getting polluted day by day. There is need to clean these two rivers and restore the lost glory of the city,” he said.
