Shillong, November 13: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday confirmed that the recent National Investigation Agency (NIA) raids conducted in South Garo Hills are connected to an ongoing probe into the recent Delhi bomb blast.
“The information we have received indicates raids are taking place at multiple locations. The NIA is trying to gather details, and it is an ongoing investigation,” Sangma told reporters in Shillong.
He declined to share specific details, citing the sensitive nature of the case.
“It would be incorrect for me to go into details due to the sensitive nature of national security,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is fully cooperating with the NIA in its operations.
“We are here to cooperate with them in every way possible, providing whatever help and support is needed. The matter is sensitive, and we will refrain from going into details,” Sangma added.
When asked about the exact locations of the raids in South Garo Hills, Sangma declined to disclose further information, stating that any such revelation could compromise the investigation.
“I do not want to compromise the investigation by disclosing details,” he reiterated.
Addressing public concerns, the Chief Minister clarified that the situation in Shillong and other parts of Meghalaya remains normal, stressing that the ongoing actions are limited to background checks.
“The situation is completely different here. There is no cause for alarm,” he said.
Sangma further stated that no specific alert has been issued for Meghalaya and that the NIA’s activities form part of a wider, coordinated investigation.
“The investigations are ongoing, and I will not comment beyond what is necessary to protect national security. There is nothing to worry about; it is part of the investigation,” he concluded.
