Shillong, Nov 4: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge North East Luizinho Faleiro rejected reports that some Congress legislators would leave the party saying, “no fools will join the BJP and its alliance partners.”

The Congress leader arrived in the state capital to announce the launching of a nation-wide movement against the BJP-led NDA government from November 5 to 15.

At a press conference at Congress Bhavan on Monday, Faleiro told reporters that the BJP, which is ruling at the Centre, and its partners are ruining the country.

“The agenda of the BJP is to destroy the democracy. It has ruin this country and who are those fools who wants to join them,” he said while reacting to reports about Congress MLAs planning to join other political parties.

Rubbishing the allegations, the Congress leader said it is only rumours from some people who are trying to spread because the ground under their foot is shaking up as they know that they have nothing to offer to the people and their performance has been zero with no development, infrastructure and schemes.

He further stated that the Tenth Schedule is very clear that those who want to resign from the party and defect, they would stand disqualified till the end of the term and they cannot contest before that.

“So which fool will resign and wait till the end of his term, if he does he will be forgotten,” Faleiro said adding “I have met all the MLAs of the party. When the MLAs know that the people who are ruling are shedding tears as nothing is happening, why should they join them.”

The AICC general secretary also appealed to the people supporting either the BJP or members of the NEDA not to sell their souls for the sake of power.

Elaborating further on the movement, Faleiro said that this is an operation to save the country including Meghalaya and the North eastern region.

“The Congress is the only party which is committed to preserve the NE states and to protect the unique identity and culture as today the NE states are facing a great danger from the evil designs of the BJP to eliminate the identity of the NE people,” he said.

He said last year, the BJP nearly approved the Citizenship Amendment Bill and had it not for the Congress party, the Bill would have been passed in the Rajya Sabha but “we stop it”.
