No implication within MDA Govt due to upcoming bye-election to Ranikor: Tynsong

Shillong, June 26: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the upcoming bye-election to the Ranikor Assembly Constituency in South West Khasi Hills district would not have any implication within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government due to the upcoming bye-election to the Ranikor Assembly Constituency in South West Khasi Hills district.

“There is no political ramification as there is no such agreement that once we are together, we can no longer contest elections,” Tynsong who is also the NPP leader, told reporters here on Tuesday.

Reacting to a decision of the UDP, which is main ally of the NPP-led MDA government to contest the upcoming bypoll, Tynsong said, one must understand the ground reality that every political party has to sustain one’s own identity.

“Be it NPP, UDP, PDF, Congress, they are allowed to contest, and there is no bar. We need to have the fighting spirit (even though if we are coalition partners),” Tynsong said.

The NPP will field former MLA, Martin M Danggo, who recently resigned from the Congress and as member of the State Legislative Assembly.

“We are fully prepared to ensure he (Danggo) retains the seat,” Tynsong said.

Danggo, who was elected for five times as MLA from the erstwhile Langrin and now Ranikor constituency, had resigned following the announcement of the MDA government to upgrade Ranikor Administrative Unit into a full-fledged Civil Sub-division.
