Shillong, Sept 12: A delegation led by Congress MLA from Nongpoh constituency, Mayrald Born Syiem on Wednesday demanded from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government speed up the process of making the Public Health Centre (PHC) at Marmaiñ village along the Meghalaya-Assam border functional.
Syiem along with the delegation of elders and representatives from various villages of the area met Health Minister, A.L. Hek and urged the state government to sanction all posts that should be filled up in order to make the PHC operational without further delay.
Syiem said that all civil works related to the construction of the PHC, quarters for doctors, nurses and staff have been completed last year, and what required now from the state health department side would be to sanction all necessary posts so that the health centre would become functional for the benefit of the people especially villages along the inter-state border.
The Nongpoh MLA said that areas along the inter-state border were mostly affected by malaria, and the functioning of the PHC would be of great help for the people of the area.
The PHC at Marmaiñ is expected to cater to the needs of around 20,000 population from around 25 villages.
Syiem said that the Health Minister has assured to take all steps to make the PHC functional.
“We have high hope that within this year or by the first part of next year, the PHC would be opened,†the Nongpoh MLA said.
Meanwhile, the Nongpoh MLA also met PHE Minister, Samlin Malngiang to find out the status of the proposed Nongpoh Combined Water Supply Scheme.
Syiem said that the water supply project has been proposed for sanction under the 15th Finance Commission at Rs 75 crore, and the residents of around 19 villages, partly of both Nongpoh and Umsning Assembly constituencies would be benefit from it.
