Shillong, Nov. 19: Nongpoh MLA Mayrald Bond Syiem has expressed satisfaction that the Government is finally taking concrete steps to address the long-pending issues surrounding the non-functional Umshaken Sub-Centre and the shortage of healthcare staff in the Umden region.
For years, residents of Umshaken, Umden Nongtluh and neighbouring villages have faced severe difficulties due to the absence of accessible healthcare facilities. The MLA, who has been consistently pursuing the matter with the Health & Family Welfare Department, said the Government’s renewed commitment is a positive sign for the community.
Syiem informed that he has already submitted written reminders to the State Government, urging quick completion of the Sub-Centre building and immediate release of pending project funds. He reiterated that the facility is essential for primary healthcare, particularly given the remote location and the lack of nearby medical services.
During an earlier meeting with villagers, local leaders, community bodies and health officials, the MLA stressed that operationalising the Sub-Centre and ensuring the posting of medical staff are crucial steps that will directly benefit children, pregnant women, the elderly and hundreds of households.
Residents welcomed the MLA’s intervention, expressing hope that once completed and staffed, the Sub-Centre will finally provide timely and reliable healthcare access to the rural population of the area.
