Shillong, Nov 25: The NPP’s decision not to put up candidate in Mawlai constituency has led to leaders and primary members quitting the party.
NPP leader, Sylvester Kurbah and present headman of Mawlai Phudmuri told reporters on Friday that NPP leaders have conveyed to him during a meeting at the NPP office that the party would not like to put up candidate in Mawlai in the upcoming Assembly polls.
“They told me that I would not be given party ticket to contest the election from Mawlai since the party has decided not to put up any candidate. However they did not mention any reason why the NPP did not want to field candidate in Mawlai,” Kurbah said.
Kurbah said that since he has already worked hard for the NPP and had formed units in many places in Mawlai constituency, he decided to leave the NPP and contest as Independent candidate.
Kurbah who is working as Superintendent (Mines and Minerals) in KHADC, has applied for voluntary retirement to retire from service from November 30 to contest the upcoming Assembly polls.
