Shillong, May 1: Officials of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and officials of the Meghalaya government will meet in Shillong this month to discuss on taking forward the implementation of various road projects in the state being supported by the Centre.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after meeting Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari along with Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong in New Delhi where they discussed the implementation of ongoing road projects in Meghalaya.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said that to take the projects forward, a meeting between officials of the Ministry of Transport and the State government officials would be held at Shillong on May 25 and 26.
During the meeting with Gadkari, officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) also attended.
The meeting resolved that road connectivity in Meghalaya would be enhanced at the earliest and the Central government would extend full cooperation and support to the state.
“The Central Government is committed to provide all necessary support to the State to ensure that all pending road projects are given due attentionâ€, the Chief Minister informed.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister also discussed on eight different projects which were important to enhance connectivity in Meghalaya including the Tura– Dalu road, Baghmara–Moheskola–Ranikor road, NH-62 and the Shillong–Dawki road.
“We discussed about taking up critical roads under National Highway and converting of timber bridges to RCC. The meeting was very productive and the Union Minister has assured full cooperation and support to improve road connectivity in Meghalayaâ€, the Chief Minister said.
