Shillong, Feb 15: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Matsiewdor War Nongbri launched the “Operation Zero Litterâ€, a joint collaboration of Shillong Municipal Board and Home Guards and Civil Defence at Khyndai-Lad here on Friday.
The objective of the operation is to achieve a zero-litter Khyndai-Lad within 30 days from the start of the operation.
Addressing the programme, the Deputy Commissioner said, “the initiative needs to be taken in the right earnest to keep Khyndai-Lad area litter free. There is a need for collective efforts of all stakeholders and public at large in this endeavour and called upon each and everyone to be a part of the campaign. We need to put a little bit of effort and help each other out to make this programme a success, she said.
Shillong Municipal Board chief executive officer, B. S. Sohliya hoped that the programme would have tangible and concrete results in the days to come.
He also said that depending on the success in this programme, the programme will later be spread out to other spots in the city.
Officials from the Home Guards and Civil Defence, Shillong Municipal Board and Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides were present at the programme.
