Shillong, Apr 16: Opposition Chief Whip, Process T. Sawkmie on Tuesday asked the state government to extend financial assistance to all families affected by thunderstorm in the state.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Sawkmie said, “…the Government should extend financial assistance/support to those family members who have been affected.”

He said that the state has been affected by thunderstorm and heavy rain in the past few days which has caused damages to schools, houses, Churches, farmers and even individual/families in parts of Jaiñtia Hills, West Khasi Hills and also parts of Garo Hills.

Stating that BDOs have done their job in assessing the damages caused by the storm, Sawkmie urged the government to take up the issue seriously by sanctioning money to all the affected families.
