Shillong Aug 5: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and one Independent MLA on Monday declared the formation of a sub-alliance within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
The sub-alliance is known as the United Progressive Front (UPF) which comprised of four MLAs of the PDF – two ministers, Hamletson Dohling and Banteidor Lyngdoh, Gavin M Mylliem, Jason S Mawlong, one NCP legislator, Saleng A. Sangma and Independent MLA, Lambor Malngiang.
The six MLAs have also submitted a letter to the office of the Assembly Deputy Speaker, Timothy D Shira at the Assembly Secretariat at Khyndai Lad on Monday.
Sports Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh told reporters that the UPF was formed by the six MLAs mainly to work together and by forming this sub alliance within the MDA government, it will be for the benefit of the state and overall development besides raising the issues together.
Urban Affairs minister, Hamletson Dohling said that UPF would ensure that the MDA government functions smoothly.
“We have faith in the leadership of the chief minister, Conrad K. Sangma and the UPF will give more strength to the MDA government,†Dohling said.
