Shillong, Dec 18: The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has declared the first of list of nine candidates on Tuesday for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) likely to be held in February, 2019.

The first list has names of four sitting members – Arbinus Lyngdoh (Umroi), Hadrian Lyngdoh (Mawkyrwat), Morningstar Mawsor (Mawshynrut) and James Ban Basaiawmoit (Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah).

The other five candidates include, PDF general secretary, Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang from Mawphlang-Diengiei constituency, Macdalyn Mawlong from Umsning constituency, Melamshwa Rynjah from Nongkrem constituency and Fedrick Joplang Lynshiang from Laban-Mawprem.

According to the PDF president, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang, who is also the chairman of the CEC, his party would also release the second list soon.

He informed that in order to strengthen the party in Jaiñtia Hills, zonal committees have been formed recently as the party was also preparing for the elections to the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). The elections to the JHADC may be held together with polls to the KHADC.

Marbañiang said that the process of selecting candidates for the JHADC elections would complete soon, and the first list of candidates would be also released soon.
