Shillong, Sept 28: Newly floated political party – People Democratic Front (PDF) has decided to field Judah J.M. Wahlang, who is the son of Rev PBM Basaiawmoit, as its probable candidate from Sohïong, a constituency represented by home minister, H.D.R. Lyngdoh, in the upcoming 2018 state elections.

Wahlang was welcomed to the party as a member and candidate by the PDF president, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang in the presence of party leaders at a meeting held at Nongbsap village under the constituencyon Thursday.

Rev P.B.M. Basaiawmoit, who had unsuccessfully contested against the sitting Congress MP from Shillong parliamentary seat, Vincent H. Pala in the last Lok Sabha election, was also present during the occasion, as his son along with his supporters joined the PDF.

The PDF-Zonal Committee Sohiong Constituency was also accordingly constituted for gearing up the preparation for the upcoming state election to ensure that the party wins from the constituency.

In his speech, Wahlang, a post graduate in Philosophy from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) said, “I don’t want to bribe the people and I don’t want the people to bribe me also for contesting the elections.”

He said that it would not be possible for him or anybody to bring change in Sohiong constituency, if the decision doesn’t come from the people.

Though he is a resident of Mawpat village, Wahlang however said, “What different does it makes if I come from another village to represent the people of Sohiong Constituency when majority of MLAs are also from other villages and not from the constituency they represented.”

According to him, what is important is the commitment of the leader to serve the people and the constituency.
