Shillong, Oct 11: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) urged the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to speed up the process of setting up entry and exit points to check influx into the state.
The request was made by two ministers of the PDF, which include Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling and Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh.
During a meeting held on Wednesday, the two ministers said that they discussed the issue with the Chief Minister and urged him to speed up the process.
“We have urged the chief minister to speed up the setting up of the entry-exit points while taking into consideration the danger of uncheck influx and illegal immigration entering the state,†Dohling said.
Dohling said that the Chief Minister has assured that he would send a team to inspect the Mendipathar railway station to identify the place for creating the entry and exit point.
The state government had proposed to set up entry and exit points as per the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 and rules.
