Shillong Feb 21: Five persons including a woman were arrested and 10.174 kg of suspected Amphetamine W.Y (Yaba tablets) was found by police after intercepting a vehicle travelling from Guwahati to Shillong.
According to the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills district, one tourist vehicle bearing the Assam registration (AS 01 LC 4807) travelling from Guwahati to Shillong was being used by drug suppliers for transporting contraband drugs.
During a joint operation carried out along with Anti Narcotics Task Force team and accompanied by personnel of Mawlai police station, the vehicle which was occupied by five persons and the driver, was intercepted at Mawïongrim viewpoint.
During the search of the vehicle and belongings of the occupants, police found 10.174 kg of suspected Amphetamine W.Y @ Yaba tablets inside the travel trolley of one Jiten Wairokpam Singh.
On examination of the suspect, police ascertained that he was in conspiracy of trafficking the contraband drugs along with four others – Akoijam Subhachandra Singh, Samphangso Shinglai, Nganba Wairokpham Chenglei and a woman, Nengneichong Lhanglal all of Manipur’s Thoubal and Ukhrul districts.
All the five persons were arrested and a case has been registered at Mawlai police station under NDPS Act.
