Nongpoh, November 3: Police in Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District, have launched an investigation after an unclaimed blue-and-black bag was found near National Highway-6, opposite the State Bank of India Nongpoh Branch and close to the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank.
The discovery triggered panic among commuters and pedestrians, as no one came forward to claim the bag, raising fears that it could contain hazardous materials.

Upon receiving the report, personnel from Nongpoh Police Station swiftly reached the location and immediately cordoned off both the highway and the service lane as a precautionary measure. Officers instructed the public to keep away from the area and avoid unnecessary movement until the situation is assessed.
The contents and ownership of the bag remain unknown. Authorities are currently awaiting the arrival of the Bomb Squad from Shillong to conduct a detailed inspection and ascertain whether the object poses any threat.
In the meantime, police have appealed to the public to remain calm while staying alert. They also urged residents not to circulate unverified rumours that could lead to unnecessary fear or panic in the Nongpoh area.
