Shillong Mar 24: Police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in a series of stabbing incidents in Shillong city which took place after the Ichamati clash that led to the death of KSU member from Sohra, Lurshai Hynñiewta.
Hynñiewta, was killed in a clash at Ichamati on February 28. KSU members were attacked after a public meeting was held at Ichamati in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and demanded the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP).
East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police, C Lyngwa said that following a series of stabbing incidents by unknown persons at ïewduh area on February 29 in retaliation to the death of Hynñiewta at Ichamati, one person, Rupchand Dewan succumbed to his injuries and six others grievously injured.
“The East Khasi Hills district police had left no stone unturned in meticulously collecting evidences and statements from eye witnesses and during the last three weeks were able to collate all evidences to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime, and arrested one person on Monday who confessed to have committed this crime along with three other accomplices,†Lyngwa said.
On his leading, the SP said that the second accused was also arrested and the police are on the lookout for the remaining two who have been identified and will be arrested shortly.
The SP said that the first accused was identified as Melajied Khongbuh, publicity secretary of KSU Jaïaw circle, and the second accused identified as Laldin Nongkynrih, member of KSU Mawkhar circle.
