Police yet to trace accused in Dangar Attacked

Shillong, Jan 19: The two accused persons involved in attempting to murder the eldest brother of former Congress legislator from Mawsynram Pynshngain N Syiem are still absconding even as police are on job to nab them at the earliest.

Kynpham N Syiem (49) was critically injured when he was attack by two persons who are allegedly supporters of the Congress party who stabbed him with a sharp weapon at Dangar village in East Khasi Hills, the incident which took place at around 10 pm on Wednesday.

The accused identified as Kyllangshngain Thongni and Pustirwel Disiar also absconded soon after the incident while the victim was immediately rushed to a city hospital where an operation was conducted on him yesterday.

Speaking over phone, Superintendent of Police (City) Spill Thamar said that police are on the job to trace down the accused persons.

“All out efforts are being made to arrest them,” he said while informing that the case has been treated as serious and is being supervised at the level of senior police officials.

He also informed that a case has been registered under sections of the IPC relating to attempt to murder.

Asked on the allegations made by the family members that the incident was in connection with the upcoming elections, the SP however said that investigation is still on to ascertain the motive of the attackers.

“Therefore, we are yet to establish whether the incident has anything to do with the upcoming election,” he said while adding that police are also yet to record the statement of the victim, who is still undergoing medical treatment.

According to family sources, Kynpham’s condition is more or less stable but is still under medical observation after the operation.
