Police yet to trace attackers on KHADC chief’s brother

Shillong, Jan 25: Police are yet to be able to trace accused involved in stabbing the brother of former Mawsynram legislator and KHADC chief, P.N. Syiem.

“They (accused persons) are still absconding and we have not been able to trace their whereabouts. However efforts are on to catch them at the earliest,” district police chief Davis NR Marak told reporters here.

Kyllang Thongni and Pustirwell Disiar, allegedly Congress workers, recently, stabbed Kynpham N Syiem (49) at Dangar village in East Khasi Hills District leaving him critically injured. Kynpham was admitted in a hospital in the city.

Marak said, as per preliminary investigation, it seems the absconded accused persons were drunk and it appears (the incident) to be more of a drunken brawl.

“They may have some personal grudge (with the victim) or political rivalry earlier, but at that point of time, what led to the incident I was told that they were drunk,” he said.

Meanwhile, the SP informed that look out notices have been issued to the different police stations and police outposts in East Khasi Hills as well as in other districts.

It may be mentioned the family members of the victim have alleged that the incident was directly connected to the elections.
