Shillong, Jan 29: A resolution to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016 passed in the Lok Sabha recently was adopted by 11 political parties from different states of the North Eastern Region while also deciding to meet the President, Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in the next few days.
This resolution was adopted at the North Eastern Region’s Political Parties’ Convention on the Citizenship Amendment Bill held at Guwahati on Tuesday which was attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga, Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly, Dr Donkupar Roy, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president, Atul Bora besides leaders of the NPP, AGP, MNF, NPF, NDPP, UDP, PDF, HSPDP, KHNAM, JD(U) NEE and IPFT.
The resolution said that a delegation of all participating political parties along with other parties that supported the cause would meet and apprise the President of India and Prime Minister in the next few days.
The resolution maintained if the government of India failed to respond to the call of the people and went ahead with the Bill, the convention decided to continue its opposition to the bill and would meet again to chalk out future course of action.
Thanking all political parties for objecting the bill and supported the cause inside and outside the Parliament, the convention also decided to form a committee to reach out to different parties across the country to support this cause.
