SHILLONG, FEB 26: The United Democratic Party (UDP) will take a decision on its participation in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council election and the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election after the conclusion of the ongoing Assembly budget session.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said the party has not yet held internal discussions on the matter due to its preoccupation with the current session.
“As of now, we have not discussed in the party. After the session, we will definitely discuss the MP bye-election,” Lyngdoh said.
He added that the party is likely to convene a meeting next week to deliberate specifically on the GHADC polls scheduled for April 10. “We will try to take a call before the 10th. We will meet and take a decision,” he stated.
According to Lyngdoh, party leaders from Garo Hills are currently assessing the political scenario and working out the best possible strategy for the 2026 GHADC elections. Their assessment will be placed before the party leadership following the Assembly session, after which a final decision will be made.
