Shillong, Nov 15: Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister, Prof Roytre C. Laloo said that claims made by the BJP and NPP of having created “waves” in the state ahead of Assembly elections were nothing but sound of “empty pots.”
He however said that the Congress do not need such kind of waves as the party believed in the adage “run silent, run deep.”
“People who go deep into the needs of the people, need not create waves. The present waves can be compared to empty vessels as they make lot of noises,” Laloo told reporters here.
On the BJP’s claims that the ruling Congress was not getting candidates from some constituencies to contest the upcoming Assembly elections, Laloo countered saying, the Congress had already issued application forms for ticket aspirants from August 31 to September 15 and the District Congress Committees have to forward the names of aspirants for Congress tickets to the MPCC by November 22.
“The Congress has already done it, but the BJP has not even issued application forms. This shows that the BJP is afraid that nobody would apply for tickets,” he said, while acing the BJP of doing nothing for the people except bringing suffer to the people due to demonetization.
He also said that the NPP which is the partner of the BJP has no wave that can turn into a vote wave.
He also said that regional parties have done nothing that they can be proud of.
“People will vote for the Congress, they feel that it is the Congress that has given independence, state, autonomous district councils, NEIGRIHMS, NEHU among other initiatives. Therefore, the Congress has better chance because if anyone is to fight against the BJP, it’s the Congress,” he stated.
Stating that Congress will go alone in the 2018 Assembly polls, Laloo said that as of now Congress does not hold talks with any regional parties for the elections as the party would field candidates in all 60 Assembly seats.
