Programme on ‘Scientific Beekeeping’ organized for farmers in Ri-Bhoi

Shillong, Aug 5: The Division of Crop Protection, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam on Saturday organized a programme on “Scientific Beekeeping” for beekeepers from 14 villages of Ri- Bhoi district.
The programme was organized at Nongthymmai village Ri- Bhoi district, in collaboration with the Raid Madam Kyrdem Bee Keeper Association, Nongthymmai.
A total of 159 beekeepers from 14 villages of Ri- Bhoi district of Meghalaya benefitted from the programme.
The day-long training elaborated on “Scientific Beekeeping” for livelihood improvement of farmers in the state.
The programme started with the welcome address by Stephen Shoolap, President of Raid Madam Kyrdem Beekeeper Association, Nongthymmai. Various scientific speeches were given on beekeeping including hands on demonstrations and problem associated with the Beekeeping, by the scientists of the ICAR.
Various inputs related to beekeeping such as hives, bee veils and gloves were provided to the beekeepers. An interaction between scientists and beekeepers was also held and queries posed by beekeepers were answered by the scientists. The training and hands on demonstration assured that the beekeepers get the best out of art of beekeeping.
