Shillong, Aug 28: Two organizations in Ri-Bhoi district, the Ri-Bhoi Students’ Union (RBSU) and Ri-Bhoi Youth Development & Social Organization (RBYDSO) on Monday demanded the removal of deputy commissioner, C.P. Gotmare and superintendent of police, R. Singh.

In a joint statement issued here, RBSU president, E.J. Nongpluh said, “We demand the immediately removal of both the district heads (DC and SP) for being officers only for politicians.”

“On various occasions, the DC has neglected the people of the district be it implementation of developmental programmes and maintenance of law and order,” he said.

He added, “The SP on the other hand is also functioning in the same style (like the DC). He is to be blamed for the law and order problem in the district. He (Singh) is only wasting his time in issuing frequent orders for transferring of police officers from one police station to another in the district.”

He said that under the SP’s direction, many members of the organization were arrested on false pretext.

RBYDSO president, Sebastian Malai said that it was a matter of concern that peace and tranquility in the district has been affected due to failure of the district heads to work together with the people of the district.
