Repolling at Konarchar under Selsella constituency on April 15

Shillong Apr 13: Re-polling at Konarchar polling station under Selsella Assembly constituency will be held on Monday.

The re-poll has been recommended due to crisscrossing of EVMs during the polling held on Thursday.

The problem occurred due wrong connection of the voting machines by a presiding officer.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, F.R. Kharkongor, based on a report of the Returning Officer of Selsella Assembly constituency and Tura Parliamentary Constituency, as well as reports of observers, the Election Commission after taking all material circumstances into account, has directed under Section 58(2) of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951, the poll taken on April 11 at polling station Konarchar LP School of Selsella Assembly segment is void, and fixed April 15 as the date for taking fresh poll from 7 am to 4 pm.

Selsella Assembly seat went to bye-election together with the Lok Sabha poll to Tura Parliamentary constituency on Thursday. Two EVMs, one for Assembly bypoll, and another for Lok Sabha poll was arranged at Konarchar polling station as well as in other polling stations under Selsella Assembly constituency.

Konarchar polling station has a total of 712 voters.
