Nongpoh | 14 November 2025 Through tireless dedication and persistent hard work, students who study on their own to prepare for various examinations never let their efforts go to waste. Instead, these efforts become stepping stones to greater achievements. When leaders who carry the spirit of uplifting their own community recognize and honour such hardworking students, it not only brings them appreciation but also opens doors for future academic opportunities.
With the aim of shaping the district to produce outstanding students who can strive towards academic excellence, and to encourage the youth of Ri Bhoi District, the leaders of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF)—one of the oldest organisations serving the district and actively participating in important state issues—today organised a felicitation ceremony. The programme was held on the occasion of Children’s Day, during which 28 meritorious students from different academic categories were honoured. This marks the 17th such ceremony organised by the district to acknowledge hardworking students. The awardees include:
10 students who secured positions in the Top 10 of the SSLC Examination 2025
5 students from the Top 10 of the HSSLC (Arts)
8 students from the Top 10 of the HSSLC Science Stream
5 students from the Top 10 of the HSSLC Commerce Stream
The felicitation serves as an inspiration to other students who learn about the achievements of their peers, encouraging them to work hard in their academic pursuits.
Present at the programme as the Chief Guest was Bah Sosthenes Sohtun, MLA of Jirang Constituency and a Minister in the State Government, who also formerly served as President of the RBYF Byrnihat Circle. Also in attendance were RBYF President Bah Bipul Thangkhiew, along with leaders Bah A.G. Sten, Bah P.P. Kylla, Bah Denis Syngkli, Bah Liandar Nongshli, Bah Neversad Makdoh, and others.
Some awardees were unable to attend the ceremony in person, and their family members received the honours on their behalf.
As a tribute to the late Bah Kynsaihunlang Nengnong, General Secretary of the RBYF Sengkmie, who passed away recently, a one-minute silence was observed. The programme also included the singing of the Ri Bhoi Anthem.
