Shillong, Sept 8: Mylliem MLA Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, popularly referred to as the “ROLL Model,” has emerged as a pivotal figure in shaping political stability and strategy within the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
The shift of several MLAs from the Congress to the National People’s Party (NPP) has not only consolidated NPP’s strength in the Assembly but also highlighted Ronnie Lyngdoh’s role in facilitating smoother governance. The NPP currently has 33 MLAs, supported by two People’s Democratic Front (PDF) members aligned with the party.
Party insiders describe Ronnie as a “bridge-builder” who has helped stabilize the coalition, particularly in matters concerning the appointment of a Deputy Speaker and potential ministerial reshuffles. His influence, they note, has contributed to strengthening the MDA’s numerical strength and policy-making capacity.
Reports suggest that the Congress defections to the NPP have enabled the ruling party to consolidate its position, address internal challenges, and exercise greater influence over key appointments in the Assembly. The recent implementation of the Deputy Speaker’s appointment, guided by directives from the party high command, underscores the top-down approach within the NPP’s functioning.
Ronnie V. Lyngdoh is increasingly being recognized as a strategist and mentor within the NPP’s state unit. His contributions, observers say, have been central to ensuring stability, maintaining legislative influence, and guiding the consolidation of the ruling coalition.
