Sawkmie elected unopposed as new KHADC dy chairman

Shillong Mar 27: National People’s Party (NPP) MDC from Mawsynram Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie was elected unopposed as the new deputy chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

This was after the opposition Congress has decided not to field any candidate for the post.

Alvin, a first-time member was declared elected unopposed as the deputy chairman of the Council by the KHADC chairman Pynshngainlang N Syiem during the ongoing budget session held here on Wednesday.

The newly elected deputy chairman was accordingly escorted by the KHADC CEM PN Syiem, deputy CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem and other members to his chair.

Members from both ruling and opposition bench while participating at the felicitation ceremony extended their congratulations and urged the deputy chairman to perform his duty without being partial.

“We have full confident that you will govern the house as per the AD rules,” said the KHADC chairman PN Syiem.

He said it is also interesting that the post of the chairman is being held by a former MDC of Mawsynram and the deputy chairman post by a newly elected member of the constituency.

Speaking on the occasion, Alvin sought the cooperation and support of all the members and assured to perform his duty as per rules. “I agree that I have to keep the party uniform aside and I assure that I will try to the best of abilities to perform my duty as per rules,” Mawsynram MDC said.
