Shillong, Sept 4: The opposition Congress on Tuesday slammed the BJP-backed Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) for its failure to resolve the ongoing ban on coal mining in the state.
The MDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma will complete six months on September 6.
Opposition chief whip, Process T. Sawkmie told reporters at Congress Bhavan here on Tuesday that the BJP had promised during election campaigns this year that it would resolve the ban on coal mining within six months.
“The BJP national leaders had claimed that if they come to power in the state they would resolve the issue within a matter of months. Now they are part of the state government and even after six months we did not see light of the day,†he said.
He also said that the BJP claimed that more money would be transferred to Meghalaya, but teachers in the state are not getting their salary and have threatened to boycott the Teachers’ Day celebrations.
“The chief minister Conrad K Sangma and the BJP have both fooled the people. They are running the government for six months but yet to see big projects sanctioned by the Centre except only photographs (of the Chief Minister meeting Central ministers),†he said.
