School for poor students at Thynroit village celebrates advance Christmas with Marwari Sammelan Mahila Samity

Shillong Dec 20: A school for the poor, Nongspung Mawria Secondary School, Thynroit under Mawkynrew Block, East Khasi Hills district on Thursday organized a pre-Christmas celebration and distributed gift items which include blankets and cloths to people belonging to poor families.

The celebration was also supported by Marwari Sammelan Mahila Samity, that distributed gift items to the needy people. Every year the Mahila Samity has been supporting pre-Christmas celebration organized by different organizations and schools.

Representatives of the Mahila Samity joined the students and people of Thynroit in the celebration and distributed the gift materials to over hundreds people who have been selected to receive the gift items. Those who received the gift items were poor people from Thynroit village and few adjoining villages like Mawber, Mawpyrshong and other villages.

Elderly people were given blankets while children got sweaters, caps, socks. Cups as well as biscuits, cakes, and sweets were also distributed to those who were present at the programme.

Headman of Thynroit village, Secretary of the village, teachers and students, parents and children were also present on the occasion.

The day was enthralled with Christmas songs and other numbers by a group of singers from Umjer Production.

The School expressed its sincere thanks to the Mahila Samity for their help and support especially for distributing the gift items to people of the area during this festive season of Christmas.

The Mahila Samity shared joy and happiness for being able to celebrate Christmas with the people of the area who need various help from fellow human beings.

The Nongspung Mawria Secondary School, Thynroit was first started by the two siblings – Skoi Nongspung and Meris Nongspung to cater to the educational needs of students in the village who could not afford to pay school fees. The schools was established on February 15, 2000 as pre-primary and later was upgraded to lower primary and upper primary and now as secondary school.
