Shillong Jan 28: The second body of a miner, detected three days ago inside the coal mine at Khloo Ryngksan in East Jaiñtia Hills district is yet to be retrieved on Monday.
The dead body of a miner was detected on January 26 at 3am at around 280 feet from the main shaft.
Spokesperson for the rescue operation, R. Sungi informed that the Indian Navy on Monday struggled to retrieve the second body of the miner from the rat hole in the main shaft.
One body of the miner, Amir Hussain from Chirang district in Assam, was detected in the main shaft by the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) of the Indian Navy on January 16 and the body was taken out on January 24.
Susngi said that the Coal India Limited continued to pump out water on Monday from two old shafts for 34 hours and the total discharged of water was 38,55,600 litres.
He said that the KSB operated their pump for five hours and the total discharge of water was approximately 9,90,000 litres.
Susngi however said that dewatering of water by the Odisha fire service was suspended for a time being to allow the Kirloskar Brothers Limited to install their pump in one of the old shafts. The process of installing and pipe fitting is in progress.
“The NDRF also provided assistance to the Indian Navy and other agencies,†he said.
