Shillong Feb 1: The second body of a miner detected by the Indian Navy inside the coal mine at Khloo Ryngksan in East Jaiñtia Hills district is yet to be retrieved till date.
The second body was detected on January 26 with the help of an underwater remotely operated vehicle (UROV) at a depth of approximate 160 feet and 210 feet inside a rat-hole.
On Friday, the Indian Navy continued their search to retrieve the dead body but due to turbidity and materials present inside the rat hole, their efforts have not been successful. Their operation is continuing.
The CIL run both their pumps from Thursday evening 5pm till 5pm on Friday. The CIL pumped out water for 18 hours by each pump, and the total pumping was 36 hours with a total discharged of 48,60,000 litres.
The Kirloskar also pumped the water with a total discharged of 14,40,000 litres.
The KSB pumping was suspended and repairing work is nearly completed. The pumping of water is expected at the earliest.
The services of Odisha pumps are no longer required at present with the use of summersible pumps of other companies, and it was suspended for last two days.
The NDRF is coordinating as usual with other agencies and renders help to all.
As many as 15 miners were trapped inside the coal mine on December 13 last year, and only one dead body of a miner from Assam has been taken out.
