Senior IPS officer, Rajeev likely to take over as new Meghalaya DGP

Shillong, July 30: The Meghalaya government is likely to appoint a senior IPS officer who is serving in Assam as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.

Sources on Monday said that Rajeev Mohan Singh is likely to succeed the current DGP, Swaraj Bir Singh.

Rajeev is a 1984-batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre who is at present serving as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd.

Earlier, the Assam government did not pick up Rajeev for the DGP post, despite being the senior most IPS officer. The Assam government instead appointed Kuladhar Saikia in place of Rajeev as the new DGP after the retirement of Mukesh Sahay.

Swaraj Bir Singh will retire from service on Tuesday. He was due to retired in May this year, but the National People’s Party-led MDA government extended his service for three months extension.

On June 11, Swaraj had offered to resign from the DGP post following the appointment of former DGP, Kulbir Krishan, as Security Adviser to the Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma.
