Shillong, Oct 15: Meghalaya fell agonisingly short of victory, losing by 12 runs to Mizoram in a low-scoring Senior Women’s T20 Trophy plate group match played in Agartala today.
Mizoram, opting to bat first after winning the toss, were bowled out for 74 in 19.5 overs. Meghalaya’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, led by Riticia Nongbet, who impressed with figures of 3/10 in 3.5 overs. Solina Jaba also continued her fine form, returning 2/18 in 4 overs, while Ajima Sangma (1/7 in 3) and Debasmita Dutta (1/8 in 4) chipped in with key wickets. PA Patel top-scored for Mizoram with 18 off 24 balls.
In reply, Meghalaya started steadily, with openers Debasmita Dutta and Luiza Tamang adding 22 runs for the first wicket. However, a middle-order collapse saw the team slip from 40/2 to 62 all out in 19.1 overs. Debasmita top-scored with 23 from 38 balls, including three boundaries, while Luiza made 10. Mizoram’s Sandhia proved to be the game-changer with a superb spell of 3/9 in 4 overs.
Despite their strong bowling performances throughout the tournament, Meghalaya’s campaign was hampered by three abandoned matches due to unfavourable weather conditions. A win today would have secured them a place in the plate final, but they ultimately finished fourth out of six teams in the group standings.
