Shillong May 06: The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) North Khasi Hills District lauded the MDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma for taking the initiative to speed up the construction of Entry and Exit points in Ri-Bhoi district.
In a statement, the Federation said that the setting up of the checking point will help the state to curb influx since the National Highway has been the main route used by people who came via Assam.
The Federation said that it has been waiting for long to see the initiative of the state government to tackle the menace of influx.
“The FKJGP North Khasi Hills District fully understood that the entry/exit point where work has started now at Umling on a government land, is a temporary measure, but this will help the state tackle influx to a great extent,†the statement said.
The Federation also urged the government to speed up the construction of the entry/exit point and thanked the FKJGP Central Body and leaders of 13 pressure groups for following up the issue vigorously with the government on the need to set up Entry/Exit points in various parts of the state.
