Shillong, August 15, 2025: Meghalaya joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the 79th Independence Day, with the State-level function held at J.N. Stadium, Polo Grounds, Shillong. Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute from 35 marching contingents, which included units from the BSF, CRPF, Meghalaya Police, NCC, Bharat Scouts & Guides, and various schools, alongside brass bands from security forces and educational institutions.

On the occasion, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service was conferred on Shri Billygraham R. Marak, Commandant, and Shri Allan Eddie Marbaniang, Asst. Sub Inspector. Shri Rokesh Warjri, Leading Fireman, received the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service. From the Civil Defence & Home Guards Department, Smti Badalyne Kharkongor, Divisional Commandant, and Naik Parsing Ch. Marak were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
Certificates were also presented to top-performing hospitals under the MHIS-PMJAY scheme in East Khasi Hills District — Dangar PHC, Mawphlang CHC, Ganesh Das Government Maternal & Child Hospital, and Nazareth Hospital.

In the March Past competition, Loreto Convent School, BSF Girls Hr. Sec. School, and St. Joseph Hr. Sec. School secured the top three positions. For Brass Band, Sacred Heart Boys Hr. Sec. School, St. Margaret Hr. Sec. School, and Auxilium Girls Hr. Sec. School were winners, while in the cultural programme, Pine Mount Hr. Sec. School, Auxilium Girls Hr. Sec. School, and St. Anthony’s Hr. Sec. School took the honours.
