Shillong, Aug 6: The state capital of Meghalaya, Shillong, has been included with other cities in the country under Phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojana where where interventions have been planned by the Central government to address congestion problem.
According to information given by the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Chemical & Fertilizers, Mansukh L Mandaviya in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Monday, the Central government is contemplating construction of bypasses in important cities of the country under Bharatmala Pariyojana in order to avoid congestion.
The Minister informed that 28 Ring Roads, 125 Choke Points and 66 Congestion Points have been identified in the entire country under Phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojana, where interventions have been planned.
“The major cities in the North Eastern states where such intervention have been planned are Guwahati, Imphal, Silchar, Shillong, Dibrugarh, Dimapur and Aizawl,†he said.
A total budget outlay of Rs 5,35,000 crore has been earmarked for Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I proposed to be executed over a period of five years from 2017-18 to 2021-22.
