Shillong, October 8, 2025: A superb brace from Alem Khongwir helped Mylliem SC climb out of the relegation zone with a 4-1 victory over Nongrim Hills in the Shillong Premier League 2025 at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Wednesday evening.
Alem (36’, 50’), Remark Kharmalki (65’) and Kevin Kurkalang (83’) found the net for Mylliem, while Bansynshar Kharshong (41’) scored the lone goal for Nongrim Hills.
The win lifts Mylliem to eighth place with 8 points, level with Laitkor but behind on head-to-head. Nongrim Hills, meanwhile, are confirmed to be relegated after managing just 1 point this season, with no mathematical chance of survival despite two games remaining.
Despite a sluggish pitch due to heavy rain earlier in the day, both teams produced a fast-paced encounter. Alem’s opener came somewhat fortuitously as his volley from the right flank beat goalkeeper Kitboklang Marbaniang. Nongrim Hills equalised five minutes later through Bansynshar’s powerful header off a Banshemphang Kurbah corner.
Alem restored Mylliem’s lead early in the second half with a deflected strike. Remark then tapped in from close range after sustained pressure down the left wing, while Kevin sealed the victory with a well-timed header in the 83rd minute.
Nongrim Hills came close in the 69th minute when Caldolan Kharmawphlang struck the woodwork, but his follow-up header was easily collected by Mylliem goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh.
A bizarre moment in the 76th minute saw Kitboklang handle a back-pass, gifting Mylliem an indirect free-kick inside the box, but the chance was wasted.
With the league entering its decisive final stretch, Shillong Lajong currently top the table on head-to-head over Mawlai, while Sawmer hold fifth place ahead of Rangdajied United. Mylliem’s crucial win pushes Malki into the relegation zone with two games remaining.
Round 8, the penultimate stage of the season, kicks off tomorrow with Rangdajied United vs Mawlai at 4:30 PM.
