Shillong, Jan 25: The first ever national conference of physiotherapists will be held in the state capital here on February 2 and 3.
The Meghalaya Physiotherapy Association (MPA) is hosting the national conference at U Soso Tham Auditorium, here.
The two-day conference will witness over 300 physiotherapists from the different parts of the country.
MPA vice-president, S. Pyrbot told reporters that the aim of the national conference was to spread the right kind of awareness and working capacity and skills among therapists and helped in shaping the quality of life of individuals and shape the outcome of an individuals’ health condition.
The MPA also said that was mostly “luck†if some patients get cured through treatment by traditional practitioners.
The Association also stressed the need to create awareness on the role of physiotherapist in shaping people’s health.
“There is a huge difference between physical therapists and traditional practitioners,†Pyrbot
He said that physical therapists are qualified and professional who studied in detail about the human anatomy and who required to undertake a comprehensive examination including assessment of the patient.
Asked about the present trend where most of the people still depends their treatments on traditional practitioners, MPA general secretary Milan Chhetri said, they have come across many cases, where patients who undergo such treatment are not being examined or treated properly.
“Sometimes, it leads to damage of tissues and in long term cases can have a very bad impact on their quality of life,†Chhetri said.
Stating that a lot of awareness is needed to make people aware of the requirement of physiotherapy, he said, “Most of the time, it is just luck that some patients get cured through treatments by local practitioners.â€
