Shot in the arm for Latiplang as Governor declines Admnistrator Rule in KHADC

Shillong, Nov 23: Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy has declined to accede to the state government’s request for imposing Administrator Rule in Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC), an official said on Saturday.

The non-acceptance of the Governor is a shot in the arm for the newly elected Chief Executive Member Latiplang Kharkongor and his new formed Executive Committee United Democratic Forum after the state government had recommended for Administrator’s Rule or Governor’s Rule in the KHADC.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that the state government has recommended for Administrator’s Rule in KHADC after the Teinwell Dkhar-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) executive committee lost in No Confidence motion moved by opposition Congress on Wednesday.

“The government has declined to accede to the state government’s request for imposing Administrator Rule in KHADC,” Raj Bhavan official said.

Four-time KHADC member Kharkongor was elected unopposed on Friday as the new Chief Executive Member of the Council. The UDA had boycotted the election of the chief executive member.

“I feel that this instability will continue in the KHADC if both sides are 14-14 as the House at present is having only 29 members due to the passing away of one member. Under this circumstance, even if the new Executive Committee is formed, I do not know how they will pass the financial bills since there is a tie between the two sides and you will again have problem,” Tynsong said.

The KHADC has 29 members at present including the Chairman.

The political situation in KHADC took a new turn all of a sudden when the opposition Congress moved a no confidence motion, which led to the collapse of the UDA-led Executive Committee on November 20 after KHADC chairman, Pynshngaiñlang N Syiem voted in favour of the no confidence motion.
