SHILLONG, DEC 12: The Garo Welfare Society, in collaboration with the Raid Laban Sports, Social and Cultural Organization (RLSSCO), on Thursday observed the 153rd death anniversary of the iconic Garo freedom fighter Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma with a solemn floral tribute ceremony held at the Warrior Memorial Garden, Kench’s Trace (Raid Laban), Shillong.
The programme commenced with a prayer service led by Rev. Pastor P. Marak, after which attendees offered floral tributes at the bust of Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma, honouring his courage and sacrifice.
Traditional Garo food and refreshments were served, creating an atmosphere of unity and cultural pride among participants.
Addressing the gathering, local MLA and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai, who also serves as President of RLSSCO, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to members and the community for their presence. He emphasized the importance of preserving and honouring the legacy of freedom fighters like Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma, whose contributions played a vital role in shaping the nation’s history.
Shullai urged the community to continue remembering and celebrating the sacrifices of such heroes, reaffirming that their stories must inspire future generations and strengthen the collective identity of the people.
